Acting schools are helpful for actors and actresses of any age who want to further develop their skills.
Acting schools are ideal for teenagers who are fresh out of high school, aspiring actors, and even experienced thespians looking to brush up on their craft.

Acting schools incorporate a very diverse curriculum that involves the history of acting, prose and poetry classes, movement, voice lessons, dramatic techniques or interpretation, and different acting mediums such as theater, film, and television. Acting classes usually take place in a formal classroom setting. An acting class typically focuses on expressing one's individuality and acting techniques.

As most people know, New York acting schools are plentiful. New York acting schools offer some of the highest quality acting educations because of the majority of the world's film industry takes place within the state.  Famous New York acting schools include Juilliard, the Tisch School of Arts at NYU, and Circle in the Square.

Julliard's drama division is one of the most renowned and prestigious acting schools. It is also one of the most competitive acting schools in the country. Of the applicants applying to Juilliard's drama program, only about 8% are accepted, meaning that the incoming freshman acting class has about 20 people total, all with very advanced previous training. Some of the famous alumni of this acting school include Kevin Kline, Christopher Reeve, Robin Williams, and Kelsey Grammar.

Students have a choice of receiving either a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or a diploma. The techniques taught at Julliard are in accordance with Saint-Denis guidelines, which are unlike those offered at other acting schools. The Saint-Denis guidelines were developed in 1968 by drama founder John Houseman and Michael Saint-Denis, a French director, teacher, and actor.

Tuition for Juliliard acting school is $42,055 for a nine-month academic year. Tuition includes room and board, a meal plan, books, supplies, and personal expenses. First year students are required to live in the dormitory. Juilliard students can apply for scholarships that pay for $1000 of need up to ones that cover full costs of the school.

Prominent acting schools in New York include the Circle in the Square Theater School. This acting school is a professional workshop that offers a two-year professional conservatory training program in acting. This acting school teaches the Alexander Technique, which involves viewing the body as an instrument, and freeing and centering the body.

The  Circle in the Square differs from other acting schools in that the school hires professional actors, directors, and play wrights to give one hour seminars to acting students. Famous alumni hailing from Circle in the Square are Felicity Huffman and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Like other acting schools, Circle in the Square is costly. The tuition is $10,500 per year and scholarships are not available. But grants such as the Federal Pell Grant, the Federal Work Study Program, and Stafford Loans are available to cover the costly tuition.

The Tisch School of Arts at NYU joins the group of acting schools that incorporate the Alexander Technique. Instead of an undergraduate institute, it offers a three year graduate degree: Master of Fine Arts in Acting.

The tuition for the Tisch school is $17, 397 per semester. The acting school also provides full scholarships, grants, loans, and workstudy programs. Famous alumni include Michael C. Hall, Eriq LaSalle, Camryn Manheim, and Michael Mayer.

New York acting schools are a worthy investment for those serious about pursuing a career in acting. New York contains some of the best acting schools in the world, and as a result the acting classes are  far too costly for people with only a passing interest in acting. Driven and passionate actors should definitely considering investing in a New York acting school in order to better the odds of receiving that lucky break.
